The Radio industry has developed to target a larger audience with a wider variety of topics and to have a wide range of ages as radio has developed and moved to the internet through podcasts which are episodic shows one example of this is The Late Night Woman's Hour this podcast predominantly focuses at an audience of females of all ages as the host of the show is Emma Barnett who is a British broadcaster and journalist and the show consists of more feminine topics to appeal to a wide age range of female audiences for example "Lost Friends" and "Extreme Breast Feeding" also the podcast has multiple female guests from different backgrounds including health, science and entertainment to appeal to an even wide range of audiences.
Another example of Radio audiences is Radio 4 which Late Night Woman's Hour appears on, Radio 4 is known to appeal to white middle aged middle class to upper class people as show like The Archers which is a British Soap Opera set in rural England and the characters initially being farmers thus appealing to an older predominantly white audience as radio has become a form of entertainment for older audiences as most younger audiences has moved to the internet and with this evolution of technology the BBC Radio shows are available to be listened to on the internet as well. BBC Radio 4 usually consists of drama, talk and news broadcasting as its target audience is older and more sophisticated.
With the developments in Technology especially with the rapid succession of the development of the internet has made the radio become less and less popular with the development of the internet so radio has had to evolve which has lead to the surge of podcasts and the rapid success of podcasts. However the difference of podcasts to radio is that podcasts are usually pre-recorded and are edited to be anywhere from a hour to a few hours whereas radio is always live, with the popularity of podcasts this new form of radio broadcasts has pulled in a new audience as BBC Radio has made a wide range of podcasts bringing in a new wide range of audiences as podcasts usually has a niche target audience and as the BBC has many podcasts being available to be listened to on their website allowing this wide range of audiences to use their services.
